Sixteen years ago, her father used forbidden technology to keep her alive. He never told her where it came from, what it connected her to, or why he was so afraid of anyone finding out.

Now the machinery beneath Morrow Span is waking. Voices call from bodies that were never finished. Ancient systems recognize something inside Kaela, and the people who control the city’s access to them are taking an interest in her survival.
